One of the most enjoyable parts of camping is cooking and eating outdoors. The fresh air and activity work up an unbeatable appetite.
If you plan your meals before you leave for camp, you will know what you need to take along for preparation and clean up before you get to the campgrounds. Here are a few tips that make it simple to serve up great grub every day of your camp trip:
- Pack your food according to how many days you will be away
and the number of people you need to feed.
- Find out the location of the closest grocery store to the
campsite.
- When in doubt, always pack that extra bag of noodles because
campers get really hungry.
- Take basic foods that are easy to store for several days,
such as canned and dry goods.
- Choose foods that can be mixed together in one pot to create
different meals.
- Bring cooking and serving gear such as a stove, fuel, matches,
pots, pans, utensils, bowls, plates, cups, tablecloth and pot
holders.
- Don't drag along gourmet extras you don't need because outdoor
air makes everything taste better.
- Include basics such as ketchup, salt, pepper, sugar and mustard
that can spice of lots of meals.
- Remember you are planning for three meals each day plus snacks,
so bring a variety of foods.
- Cleaning is an inevitable part of meal preparation so pack
necessities such as biodegradable soap, a cleaning brush and
dish cloths in a separate trash bag.
- Store all your basic meal items in a waterproof, durable
box that is easy to transport ? often referred to as a
chuck box by veteran campers.
With proper preparation before the big camp trip, everyone will
brag about your delicious outdoor meals until the next adventure!
